Professor Suzanne Chambers is an Adjunct Professor at ECU’s Exercise Medicine Research Institute, with expertise in the field of psycho-oncology.
Professor Chambers is an eminent academic in the field of psycho-oncology. She is a psychologist and registered nurse and has been working as a practitioner-researcher in psycho-oncology for over 20 years with extensive experience in the psychosocial aspects of cancer. She was awarded her PhD in 2004 within the School of Psychology at Griffith University. From 2011 Professor Chambers has been in the role of Professor of Preventative Health at the Griffith Health Institute at University, in which she now leads the Area of Strategic Investment in Chronic Disease. The focus of the ASI encompasses chronic health concerns of high significance nationally: cancer; metabolic syndrome; and mental health and the impacts these chronic conditions have on the individual, families, communities and society. Professor Chambers’ role is to develop, action and evaluate a broad strategy to improve research capacity in these areas within the Griffith Health Institute with $5 million of intramural development funding.
